Twitter index: 'Saturday Night Live' writer Tom Davis dies, Ramadan

Tributes for American writer Tom Davis are streaming in on Twitter. Davis lost his battle against throat and neck cancer on July 19, aged 59.

Tom Davis was known for writing some of Saturday Night Live's most popular skits in the early years, alongside Al Franken.

"So saddened by the death of our friend Tom Davis. We're so fortunate to have shared so many laughs, smiles & wonderfully great times w/ him," tweeted Saturday Night Live (@nbcsnl).

#TDKR, a short hashtag for the newly released film The Dark Knight Rises, has hit the top of Twitter's most talked about topics list. Microbloggers are tweeting their first impressions of the film.

"Why don't we just take all the awards and hand them over to Christopher Nolan. Honestly, let's. The movie was that good," "The Dark Knight Rises. No words other than...wow," "The only reason The Dark Knight is better than #TDKR is because of Heath Ledger. Rises was that good. Tweeps are marking the first day of the holy month of Ramadan with tweets of "happy Ramadan" and "Ramadan Mubarak! May Allah allow us to complete this fast in iman and health, and may He accept our acts of worship and overlook our faults!"
