Twitter index: Backstreet Boys cause buzz

Twitter users are buzzing about 1990s US boy band the Backstreet Boys and transfer news in the English Premier League on Friday, August 31.

Recently re-united boy band the Backstreet Boys, who first shot to fame in 1996 with their debut album, are again causing excitement after an appearance on US TV show Good Morning America (GMA). The August 31 performance was part of the program's 'Summer Concert Series' and saw the group perform their 1999 single 'Larger Than Life.'

The concert caused a huge amount of excitement among Twitter fans and the group now account for three of the top ten international trending topics '#GMABackstreet', 'Larger Than Life' and 'Backstreet.'

Friday is the last day of the summer transfer window, the period in which clubs can buy or sell players, for the English Premier League and transfer talk is causing a buzz on Twitter. Fifth-place topic 'Macion to City' refers to Brazilian footballer Maicon Douglas Sisenando who is rumored to be transferring from Interazionale to Premier League winners Manchester City, while Manchester City player 'Micah Richards' is making the news after failing to make progress recovering from an injury he sustained representing Great Britain in the Olympics.
